COGELSA was founded in 1916 in Barcelona, under the name of Viuda del Campillo. Since its inception, the business goal was to provide lubricating oils and other chemicals to industry.
In 1956, the company adopted its current name COMPAÑIA GENERAL DE LUBRICANTES SA. For many years it maintained its offices in Barcelona and its production plant in Hospitalet de Llobregat.
In 1995, COGELSA acquired the existing production plant, along with laboratories and offices, located in Sant Andreu de la Barca (Barcelona).
