ENERGY EFFICIENCY TEST COGELSA ULTRAGEAR LF 320
INTRODUCTION
The food, beverage, cosmetics and pharmaceutical production industry must select the appropriate products not only for their operating requirements, but also to meet regulatory requirements.
With regard to lubrication, the most efficient solution is the use of lubricants and greases that are approved for food contact according to the classification system established by the USDA.
The management system applied by COGELSA and its implementation comply with the ISO 21469:2006 standard, which specifies the requirements of hygiene for the formulation, manufacture, preservation and distribution of lubricants that may occasionally come into
contact with products and packaging used in the food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticalsoranimalfeedindustries.
COGELSA has a wide range of products approved by the certification body NSF International.
COGELSA has achieved Halal certification from the Halal Institute and Kosher certification from the Kosher Federation for products that make up the range of lubricants, vaselines and greases suitable for contact with foodstuffs.
This certification allows COGELSA to take an important step towards helping companies in the food sector to comply with the requirements of the Muslim and Orthodox Jewish communities throughout the
manufacturing and handling of their products, following the strict criteria of this community and with the full Halal and Kosher guarantee.
The COGELSA range includes products that are free of both mineralsaturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) and mineral aromatic hydrocarbons(MOAH).

• Test carried out by the Tribology and Materials Unit of TEKNIKER www.tekniker.es.
• The aim of the test is to carry out an experimental study to evaluate the energy efficiency of COGELSA ULTRAGEAR LF 320 lubricating oil, working in conditions close to the real operating conditions that occur in components that make up gear systems.
• The system is designed to measure the frictional efficiency losses occurring in the gear system with an oil.
• The system measures the torque increase caused by friction under different test conditions: load and rotational speed.
• This test compares the energy efficiency between a conventional gear lubrication oil COGELSA STANDARD VAREN EP 320 and COGELSA ULTRAGEAR LF 320 oil with a new friction-reducing additive technology.
Gear test rig FZG
The test rig used is the so-called FZG, defined by DIN 51 354 parts 1 and 2.
The type of gears used in this test rig is as follows:
Test conditions used:
(*) Hertz pressure at gear contact point (pitch diameter)
COGELSA a company that develops, manufactures and markets high-tech lubricants and greases, was founded over 100 years ago in Barcelona, Spain.
Over these years, the company has gained vast experience in different fields of industrial applications.
It works closely with various additive suppliers and research institutes to learn about the latest technologies, allowing the R&D teams to formulate state-of-the-art specialised lubricants.
COGELSA is present in more than 30 countries around the world through its wide distribution network, from Asia to Europe, Africa and America.
COGELSA offers a high-level technical service to advise on the product that should be used, as well as to follow up on the performance of the product in situ with periodic laboratory analyses that allow a long life cycle.
We supply lubricants and grease to major multinational companies that have the highest requirements with regards to the stability and performance of products.
We will be happy to be your technical partner and help you develop your business so you can focus on your proposal for added value.
Allow COGELSA to take care of your industrial fluids!
Ability to design and formulate tailor-made lubricants to meet the new demands of the latest industrial applications.
COGELSA has specific production reactors destined to products for the food industry.
The company is continuously investing in new facilities and expanding its production capacity.
COGELSA has a complete range of services for the application of its oils and grease in the food industry:
Friction tests, which provide information on friction temperature and coefficient, to compare the lubricity of fluids.
Compatibility studies with different components.
Analysis of the lubricants in use to determine their condition.
Analysis of soluble fluids to guarantee their optimum operating condition.
COGELSA can also provide other relevant data such as surface tension and various key parameters of their fluids, for their perfect monitoring.
We have focused on the development of special fluids for applications in the food industry taking into account the latest regulations and market trends.
RESULTS
LS0: Torque increase with speed.
Elimination of no-load losses: variation of lubrication regime with increasing speed.
Torque generated in the different load and speed ranges eliminating no-load losses: The lower the torque → the more efficient the oil.
CONCLUSIONS
• The greatest differences in efficiency between the oils are observed at higher load conditions (LS9). In this load condition, COGELSA ULTRAGEAR LF 320 is the oil with the highest efficiency.
• At the highest load conditions (LS9) and highest speed (1500 rpm), COGELSA ULTRAGEAR LF 320 oil provides an efficiency increase of 5.7% over COGELSA STANDARD VAREN EP 320 oil.
